Book Order

A book order went home with the children today. You can order either by sending back the order form and a check for your purchase in your child's folder (checks made out to Scholastic, please NO CASH!!). Or, you can order online.

If you choose to order online, you can use the following link:

https://orders.scholastic.com/HB2Q6

You can also go to https://clubs2.scholastic.com, set up a parent account, and use the activation code HB2Q6.

There are perks for you and me to ordering online. First of all, for every parent that orders online, I get $3 to use towards classroom books. This can add up fast. For example, if 7 parents order online, that would equal $21 for me to use to buy classroom books.

For parents who order online, they will get a voucher for a free book that can be used on a future order. What a great way to build a library for your child at home!

Book orders will be due on October 10th. I plan on sending home monthly book orders. I am always willing to work with parents who want to surprise children with books too (for Christmas or birthdays). If you let me know, I can arrange to have the books delivered to your home without your child knowing.

Sight Word Test

On Monday, October 8th, we will take our first sight word test. The children will need to know how to spell the following words:

come, eight, four, have, today, they, what, where, who, you

They will also need to know how to spell the following sentence:

The big dog is lost.

Buckley Homestead

We had a wonderful field trip to Buckley Homestead. The weather was perfect, and we learned a lot! Big thanks to the parents who attended with us:
Mrs. Shloss, Mrs. Hoeckelberg, Mrs. Cole, Mrs. Chang, and Mrs. Levingston

The children had the assignment to find out the meaning of two things:
What is Orthography?
What is Deportment?

If your child wants to write a letter to Ms. Megan, telling her the meaning of those two things, I will be glad to package the letters and make sure that Ms. Megan gets them.

Pictures will follow, as soon as I figure out how to add pictures to a blog!

Progress Reports

Progress reports will go home tomorrow. Feel free to clip off the top part (with the grades) to keep at home. I do need the bottom part (signed) so that I know that you did indeed see the report. Thanks!!

Behavior Plan

We started a new behavior plan today. Look for more information regarding this in your child's folder. A daily calendar will be in the red folder, so that you can be kept up on day to day behavior. If you have any questions regarding this, please let me know.

Don't forget

We will be going to Buckley Homestead one week from today, on September 28th. This entire trip is outside, so please watch the weather and dress your child accordingly. Each child will also need a sack lunch, no lunch boxes please! (It is much easier to just throw everything away.)

Coming Soon...

I will be sending home a Scholastic book order in the coming week. Bonus points that I earn from your orders help to keep our classroom library full of fresh titles.

Also, I plan on using a new discipline procedure with the class starting on Monday. This will involve a nightly calendar for each child, so that parents can be aware of the daily behavior. I'm finding that I have to keep my thumb on a few children, so I'm hoping that being accountable for the behavior will help the childen make better choices. More detailed information will go home on Monday!

THANK-YOU!!

Thank you, thank you for all the signed Highlights slips that were returned this week. I plan on sending them off this week-end so that we can be restocked on fun stickers soon!! You are all SUPER!

Highlights Magazine

A packet of "yes/no" slips went home today for Highlights magazine. I've attached a letter explaining everything. Basically, I just need the signed slips back, which I will send to the company in exchange for some prizes. I use this to keep the sticker box in our classroom stocked. If you want to subscribe, you only need to fill out the info on one of the slips. I think I sent home 3 or 4 slips for Highlights, and 1 slip for Puzzlemania. I really appreciate you taking the time to sign these and get these back to school.

Raz-Kids

You might have heard your child talking about Raz-Kids. This is a reading website that we use with the children to increase their reading comprehension. On this website, children have the opportunity to listen and read stories, and then take quizzes over the stories. Children are placed on levels, and they progress through the levels and they read and pass more quizzes.

We will be working on the website this week while we are in computer lab so that the children are comfortable with going on this website and navigating on it. On Friday, I will be sending home each child's log-in information to this website. Children can use this website anywhere that they have an internet connection provided they have their log-in information. I strongly encourage some time spent at home on Raz-Kids.

Have fun with this as you work with your child to put his/her timeline together. I know that doing one with my 2nd grader is taking me right down memory lane.

Field Trip notes

Field trips notes went home on Friday. Please turn these back in as soon as possible. I like to draw names for chaperones, and I want to give everyone who wants to attend the trip a chance to be put in the drawing. I would like to do the drawing THIS FRIDAY, so that those who have been chosen can have a chance to take the day off from work. Thanks for your understanding with this :)
