Open House

Open House is Thursday, September 13th, from 7:00-7:45. I look forward to meeting everyone then.

Blog How-To

I had a few questions this week regarding this blog.

First of all, don't feel the need to sign up for an account and hit the "follow" button. If you bookmark this site, and check it from your bookmarks a few times a week, that should be fine.

But, if you have a gmail account, and know how to use a blog-feeder, you can subscribe to this blog. The advantage to this is that when you are reading your blogs, this blog will show up in your feed automatically anytime I update it. (Think of it like a facebook feed- whenever someone updates their status, it shows up automatically on your feed.) If this paragraph is all Greek to you, that's ok. Just bookmark the site, and make it a habit to check it a few times a week.

To make comments on an entry, hit the "No Comments" phrase, and it should bring up a box for you to comment in. I am not sure if you need an account to comment though. A gmail account will do it if you do need an account.

The only thing I ask with comments is that if it is personal, please don't put it on the blog, because this is a public blog. For personal issues, I am available through phone or email.

I hope this helps to clear up any confusion.

Happy Dance

Well, after the first three days of school, I can honestly say that I was ready to do the happy dance. (Well, maybe not quite because I was so tired!!) These children are sweet, well behaved, excited to be at school, and excited to please. I LOVE THAT! We had a wonderful first few days together. I would like to thank all of the parents who helped to ease things along by sending in all the needed supplies as well as all of the beginning of the year forms that needed to be filled out.

I always hear things that make me giggle and make me aware of how I have the greatest job in the world. This week I heard the following: "My dad has an Ipod, and I listen to Taylor Swift on it." I don't know why that amused me so. Maybe it's the innocence of these children. Regardless, I'm looking forward to this schoolyear, and getting many giggles from your children. I'll be sure to share these cute little quotes as they come up.

Picture Day

Picture day is Thursday, August 30th. You can start sending in your picture order forms any time this week, and I will hang on to them until Thursday :)

Breakfast

Breakfast is offered every day in our cafeteria. I appreciate the breakfast permission slips coming back as quickly as they did. Keep in mind, we get our day started promptly in the morning with our math lesson. If your child is going to breakfast, he or she will miss a little bit of math. This shouldn't be a big issue, but it is something that I wanted to make you aware of.

Field Trips

Just a quick note about our field trips. We will take two field trips this year. We will go on our first field trip on Friday, September 28th. This trip is to Buckley Homestead. Our second trip is yet to be determined. Permission slips for this will go home after Labor Day. Unfortunately, I am limited on chaperones for this trip. To keep things fair, I usually throw names in a hat and draw out the chaperones.

Our Specials Schedule

Here is our specials schedule. Hopefully this will help you as you plan your child's attire for the day.

Monday: PE and Music
Tuesday: Computer and Art
Wednesday: VCR and PE
Thursday: Art
Friday: Music, Library, and Computer

Hello 2nd Grade!

Hello, my name is Mrs. Steinhilber and welcome to my class!

A little bit about me: I am a Kouts graduate. After high school, I attended Purdue University North Central. Fun fact - I student taught in 2nd grade here at Hebron Elementary in the same room that I currently teach in!! This will be my 17th year at Hebron. I have taught in 3rd grade, 1st grade, and 2nd grade.

I am married to Mr. Steinhilber who also teaches here at Hebron and is the head varsity boy's basketball and baseball coach. We have three sons: Malachi is in 6th grade, Isaiah is in 2nd grade, and Xavier is 3 and attends Kingdom of Kids daycare. Needless to say, most of my spare time is spent at various sporting events cheering on my husband or my kids.

This will be a positive year for your child as we build on past successes and learn new things in second grade! With home and school working together, your child’s academic and social skills will become even stronger throughout the year. Here is some important information about our class.

1) Students will be dismissed to our classroom around 8:10. On late start Wednesdays, children are dismissed to the classroom at 8:20.

2) Each day your child will bring home 2 folders. The gold folder will have graded papers and important notes or memos in it. The red folder will have any homework that needs to be completed. Both folders need to be returned daily. Any notes that you want me to see can be put in the gold folder. Mrs. Russell, our aide will empty out these folders the first thing in the morning so I will be sure to get any notes that you put in the gold folder for me to see.

3) Homework will be given out Monday – Thursday. Each night your child will need to complete phonics worksheets, math worksheets, and about ten minutes of reading. Please support and talk with your child about the importance of completing those assignments.

4) P.E. is every Monday and Wednesday. Please see that your child is dressed for comfort and safety (comfortable clothes, shorts or pants for girls).

5) Lunch for 2nd grade this year is at 10:45. Lunch prices are $10.25 for the week or $2.05 per day. Milk is .$55. When you send in lunch money, it would be appreciated if it is in an envelope labeled with your child's name and the purpose for it (we do collect money a few times during the year for various purposes).

I look forward to working with you and your child this year! If you have any questions or concerns, you may send a note in with your child, leave a message at 996-4771 ext.253, or send an e-mail to: steinhilberm@hebronschools.k12.in.us
